The Italian yachting market is growing, and shipyards are coming back to Genoa, starting from the English but not only them, showing that Italy and the Ligurian capital are still the world stage for high-level yachting.
Market data, two weeks before the biggest Boat Show in the Mediterranean, speak of 17.1% growth in turnover in 2015 compared with 2014, a figure decidedly higher than the prudent predictions of the UCINA Confindustria Nautica Ufficio Studi, which last spring had estimated growth of around 12%.
The positive trend is demonstrated in an analysis by Fondazione Edison, whose vice president is Prof Marco Fortis, economic adviser to Palazzo Chigi, from this year scientific partner in the annual report “Yachting in Figures”, the statistical compendium that has been produced for more than 20 years by UCINA Confindustria Nautica, supplier of data to the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport since 2014.
Among the most significant date in the study is an important indicator on foreign trade: Italy is confirmed as in disputed leader at world level, in first place for the export of yachts with inboard engines for 2015 with a share of 23.7%, beating the Netherlands (19.6%) and Germany (15.9%). Italy also maintains its world leadership in the sum of the sectors of the boatbuilding chain with a 16.3% share of exports (the 2016 addition of Yachting in Figures will be officially presented at the Show on September 22 at midday).
The Genoa Boat Show, with its 56 years of history of the yachting industry to recount, confirms it is the driving force for development in the sector, with a positive effect highlighted also by data from Assilea – also published in the new edition of Yachting in Figures – that show an increase in 50% of the contracts signed at the end of the 2015 Show.
Genoa remains one of the world showcases for the yachting sector. It’s an important event in the international marketplace held in an area of 180,000 m², 100,000 m² of which are water, making it possible to moor most of the boats on show and so allow visitors the chance to try them out on the water.

The English yachting industry is starting again in Genoa with Princess which is showing three new models: the 30Mt, the S65 and the V58. Sunseeker will also be there with the brand new Sunseeker 95, while Fairline will be showing the Fairline Squadron 53, Targa 53 and 48.
Several other foreign yards will also be back in the Show this year: among sailing yachts the French Chantiers Amel with the Amel 64, the Swedish Najad with the Najad 505. In motor yachts, the Spanish Rodman with the Rodman 42 and 44, the Turkish yard Numarine with the Numarine 78 HT, and from the United States Chris Craft will be back at the show with the Chris Craft 42. The Norwegian Fjord and the English Sealine, owned by the German group Hanse, will be showing the Fjord 42 and the Sealine 530 and 330.
Among the many yards returning to Genoa, the pride of Italian boatbuilding, we mention Innovazione e Progetti with the new IPY 53, Absolute Yachts with the Navetta 52, 3B Craft with 3B Craft 270, Cantiere Nautico Cranchi with the flybridges E50 F and E50 HT. Also back in the Show will be two historic brands: Tornado Yachts with the T38 and Sciallino with the new 25.
There will be several day cruisers on show among the motorboats: the GT 40 and the Monte Carlo 6 S by Beneteau Italia, the Fraucher 1414 Demon from Cantieri Nautico Feltrinelli, the Shadow 37 from Motonautica F.lli Ranieri, the Salpa Laver 52 by Nautica Salpa and the C42 from Sessa International.
Plenty of new products in the open class too: the 52 from Fiart Mare, the Rio Colorado 56, the 48 IN by Rizzardi and the 370GT Invictus – and among the flybridges – the Virtess 420 Fly from Bavaria Yachttbau GMBH, the Absolute 72, Rodman Muse 44 from Pedetti Yachts Sales and the Prestige 560 and 750.
Among the small craft, worthy of note are the Flyer 8 Sun Deck from Beneteau Italia, the Quicksilver Activ 555 Open and 240 Dauntless by Brunswick Marine, the Interceptor 222 from Motonautica F.lli Ranieri, the Antares 8 OB by Beneteau Italia (three Sport fisherman) and the 1150 Voyage from Sailpassion.
Plenty of new inflatables too in what is one of the most lively and interesting areas of the Show: Brunswick Marine will exhibit the Valiant 750 Raptor, Cantieri Capelli present the Tempest 40, Marlin Boat the 274, Med the Solemar 35 Oceanic, Motonautica F.lli Ranieri the Cayman 26 Sport, the 26 and the 31 Sport Touring, MV Marine will show the MV 620 Eco Tech, Nautica Amato the Italiamarine Amalfi 32, Saver the MG 800, Selva the D570, Suzuki Italia the LTN 26 Venom, Zar Formenti the ZAR 85SL and the MINI RIB11.
Confirmed success for sailing yachts, with an increase both in the number of boats on show and the average size. The main highlights: Adria Ship with the Elan E5, Advanced Italian Yachts with the Advanced A80, Beneteau Italia with the Oceanis Yachts 62, Cantiere del Pardo with the Grand Soleil 46’ LC and the Grand Soleil 58, Dufour Yachts with the 560 and the 512 Grand Large, Hanse Yachts with the 315 and Italia Yachts with the Italia 12.98. Mylius will be there with the new 76DS and 65FD, Sailpassion with the Delphia 34, Sirnew with the Azuree 41. And there’s more: the V50 and V62 Mills from Vismara, the X4 and XP55 from X-Yachts, the Pilot Saloon 58 and the RM 1270 by YachtSynergy. Then the Wauquiez 58, the Jeanneau J64 and J54, the CNB 76 and the Solaris 58.
Good news too from the multihull sector with the stars of the show for the second year running in their dedicated Hub at the centre of the Nuova Darsena. Among them, the Bali 4.0, the smallest catamaran in the Bali range distributed by Adria Ship, together with such market leaders as Fountaine Pajot, Lagoon and Nautitech.
The show will be hosting “beauties afloat since 1962”, and there will be some truly fine vessels with the two flagships, the 33.6 m motoryacht Sanlorenzo SD112 in composite material with a semi-displacement hull and the sailing yacht Advanced A80, a 24 m designed by American naval architects John Reichel and Jim Pugh and Italian yacht designers Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino of Nauta Yachts; she has high performance and plenty of space. Among the mega yachts, keenly awaited are the Amer 100 Quad from the Permare group, the new AB 100 from the Fipa Group yard and the MonteCarlo 80 from Montecarlo Yachts, the Canados 105.
